The reason we built Teyk

Today’s world is complicated: We no longer have a job for life, we’re told we’re going to live until we’re at least a hundred, and trying to understand how to plan for our savings and investments to manage through all of this is completely impossible.

It’s no longer just the rich who have complicated wealth management needs – now we all do.

Unfortunately, however, the existing wealth management solutions (i.e. the Private Banks) require us have to have at least HK$8m in the bank to be able to sign-up, and this is beyond what most of us have!

So that’s why we built Teyk.

Teyk is the personal investment platform that provides wealth management as a service. You can build up and access your wealth exactly as you need it. And at Teyk, the minimums start at HK$500, not the HK$8m as required at the Private Banks.

Teyk’s Revolutionary Service

As well as making wealth management more accessible, we’ve also improved it. Traditional wealth management providers typically just sell pre-packaged products to everyone. That means they have to offer a one-size-fits-all solution. In contrast, at Teyk, we provide individual wealth management as a service.

Why do traditional providers operate this way?

Not surprisingly, the answer is all to do with money... In the wealth management industry today the investment funds (i.e. the product providers) charge customers hidden fees within their funds, which are called trailer fees, and they then pay these back to the financial advisors. These ‘advisors’ are obviously therefore incentivised to sell the investment funds which pay the highest trailer fees, rather than to understand a customer’s real wealth management needs and to create an appropriate portfolio for them.

At Teyk, however, we’ve decided to do things differently. We don’t receive any trailer fees or any kind of kick-backs from the investment funds at all. We are completely independent from the funds. In fact, the funds that we use at Teyk are called Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) which, by design, do not even include trailer fees to begin with.

Think this sounds too good to be true? We’re able to offer such low minimums because we use technology to cut out the inefficiencies in the financial system, and in doing so we make it accessible to everyone.
